Doctor by the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya with the thesis La dimensión del sector público en los países de la OCDE (1975-2002). Un estudio comparado desde la perspectiva del esfuerzo fiscal 2005. Supervised by Dr. Juan Francisco Corona Ramón.

The R&D activities of researcher Fernando Álvarez Gómez focus on the study of the taxation of labour relations (under both general and special regimes) from the viewpoint of both employer and employee, as well as social benefits and alternative social provision tools, with special reference to procedural (tax proceedings), international (international taxation), technological (tax and social security e-government) and fraud-related matters. He is a member of the UOC's TAXBUSSINES(Taxation, Labour Relations and Social Benefits) R&D group.
